Nationalist Party MP Alex Borg used the Nadur Carnival as an opportunity to make a political statement, reminding us that he is a fan of President Donald Trump.
I don’t think he really understands what President Trump is all about, and why he likes him. President Trump is not the ideal representation of conservative values considering his history of sexual assault. His tariffs are adding to inflation instead of abating it and he also intends to dismantle the international rules based order so that his friend, Vladimir Putin, gets wider impunity to invade and attack his neighbours. He also wants to displace all Palestinians from Gaza.
On the other hand, for a Maltese politician, President Trump can symbolise impunity and excessive criminality, which is even more relevant and fitting to our context.
