The European Union’s unemployment rate stood at 5.8% in January 2025, down from 6.1% a year earlier, according to the latest data from Eurostat.
Meanwhile, the Euro area recorded an unemployment rate of 6.2%, reflecting a stable but improving labour market.
The male and female unemployment rate in Malta was 3.0% in December 2024, according to the National Statistics Office (NSO). The unemployment rate among the youth was 10.5% for the age group of 15 to 24 years, while that of 25 to 74 years was 2.2%.
Theses figures show that the country has maintained its unemployment rate lower than that of the EU.
The highest EU unemployment rate for the same period was recorded in Spain at 10.6%, followed by Greece at 9.4%. These disparities reflect the varying economic conditions and employment market trends among EU member states.
In general, the rate of unemployment within the EU has decreased steadily, from 6.1% in January 2024 to 5.8% in January 2025.
