Here’s a Nationalist Party MP who hasn’t yet given up his role as a Member of the Opposition. Karol Aquilina, who is actually doing some opposition to the government, has been censored by the outrageously biased Labour-leaning Speaker of Parliament, Anġlu Farrugia for accusing the Prime Minister to have past criminal connections. Karol Aquilina was particularly referring to the Prime Minister’s past connection with the previous drug dealer Christian Borg, with whom he concocted an insider trading deal at the Planning Authority. The Prime Minister served as a lawyer to several drug dealers, and like many typical criminal launders, he potentially helped them launder their money against big rewards.
Now, Karol Aquilina will be calling on Christian Borg to testify in front of Parliament’s Committee of Privileges. The Speaker of Parliament has unwittingly exposed the Prime Minister to the scandals of his past by trying to defend him. This is quite a turn around of events after the Prime Minister successfully pushed back against an investigation over his asset declarations by the Standards Commissioner.
The Privileges Committee won’t be launching an investigation or doing anything of that sort. The committee is supposedly intended to ensure that MPs don’t abuse of their parliamentary privileges, and Karol Aquilina will be calling on witnesses to testify in order to back his claims. Yet, the Opposition still has an opportunity to discredit the Prime Minister and embarrass him with his potentially criminal past, especially regarding the insider trading deal he made at the Planning Authority with Christian Borg, given that this was an event involving a public entity.
