Earlier today, the Nationalist Party, which forms the Opposition, held a massive protest in Valletta. Speakers at the protest included Opposition Leader Bernard Grech, Stanley Portelli, and outgoing Secretary-General Michael Piccinino.
Adrian Delia and most PN MPs were present at the protest.
Stanley Portelli started the event by speaking about corruption, particularly in Gozo, where he is from. Michael Piccinino decried the situation in which Maltese youth are losing hope in their country and leaving for opportunities abroad, claiming this is one of the government’s biggest failures. Michael Piccinino referred to a list of government failures including corruption scandals, the electricity-grid crisis and also the sewage crisis. He also made a reminder about the government’s failed promise to construct the metro.
In his speech, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech praised a strong Europe which could defend itself and implied that PN was always consistent with its pro-European principles. He accused the government of being unprincipled and changing its positions on a whim according to the wind. He also accused the government of being detached from the people and having lost its sense of morality. The Opposition Leader also made reference to the high cost of living and inflation which the Nationalist Party want to address with more subsidies.
