A system of smart-shaming

Here’s my latest opinion for the week.

The Labour Party has created a system and culture where smart people are shamed and bullied into submission. You can just scroll Facebook and read the comments under any Maltese press article to confirm this. You will always find a significant crowd of Labour people shaming and insulting journalists. This is is not just about defending Labour, it is also about condemning anyone remotely successful or intelligent. It is also why many people are growing more confident in rejecting facts and voicing opinions on things they know nothing about: like Covid.

We have a culture that advocates for prisoners and criminals and not victims. A press that is fixated with the sad stories, instead of regularly celebrating the winners of our society. Our public and culture entities prefer to pay foreign artists and indulge in corruption instead of supporting their local industries. Many individuals getting the best executive jobs with the government are the least unqualified people possible for their role. We have a legal system which hates hackers and an intelligence and security service run by literal imbeciles. Our national university ranks on par with countryside village university in Thailand or Turkmenistan. Above all, the government issues millions of Euros subsidies for stupid stuff like Isle of MTV, but barely funds and supports any research.

We have a society that hates intelligence, meritocracy, and success and is stuck with the mediocre, the vain and the corrupt. We have a culture of smart-shaming.

I couldn’t have written it any better myself. This government empowers the lazy, stupid and ignorant who now have the gall to berate and look down upon the professional and educated class as if they’re second class citizens.

Yep have to agree. I’ve seen enough greenwashing and bikewashing by incompetents at TM who have blamed market forces on the loss of alternate mode service providers, while we have local doctors and professors who are editors of international mobility and sustainability journals, with all the studies and data, are ignored?
