Yesterday, Greenlanders gathered in front of the US Consulate in the Greenlandic capital of Nuuk to protest against President Trump’s renewed threats of taking over Greenland. President Trump made these comments when sitting next to NATO’s Secretary-General Mark Rutte, who remain muted on the threats. Incoming Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen, who recently won the general election, was also present at the protest
Most Greenlanders are in favour of independence from Denmark, and they are also in favour of keeping their independence rather than joining the United States. More than 1,000 people attended the protest. Greenland has a population of up 57,000 people with up to 20,000 people living in the capital city.
