Inbound tourism surges by 12.6% in January 2025

The National Statistics Office (NSO) has recorded a large boost in incoming tourism for January 2025, estimating the total arrivals at 194,157 – 12.6% higher than that of January 2024.

Of these tourists, 182,177 visited for holiday and 8,495 for business meetings. A majority of the tourists were aged 25 to 44 years (39.4%), followed by the 45 to 64 age group (34.4%). Surprisingly, Polish, United Kingdom, and Italian tourists comprised 46.4% of the total incoming tourists.

The number of tourist nights amounted to 1,128,652, an 11.4% rise compared to the preceding year. The large majority (85.1%) of the guest nights were in rented accommodation establishments. The average stay for tourists was estimated at 5.8 nights.

Total expenditure by tourists in January 2025 amounted to almost โ‚ฌ142.6 million, an improvement of 29.4% over the same month in 2024. This corresponds to an average of โ‚ฌ126.3 per overnight stay.

The islands of Gozo and Comino welcomed 91,240 visitors, or 47.0% of the total tourists for the month.
