A man currently in prison facing charges of fraud is suspected of having facilitated up to 1500 fake leases to third-country nationals. Howard Mamo has a history of fraud and his case on the fake leases involves up to 20 witnesses.
The Labour government is trying to downplay the ID card racket by quoting incorrect press reports that only 7 cases of fraud were identified. The quote is actually from testimony of an Identity Malta official in Court that said that Identity Malta had identified seven third-country nationals who had a fake ID Card. The Police and the Attorney-General have plenty of evidence at their disposal that show that the racket was much more extensive.
The case was initiated after Jason Azzopardi started publishing the evidence himself on his social media accounts.
