Eurostat releases flash inflation estimate lower than expected at 2.2%

Ina surprise announcement, Eurostat released a flash estimate of inflation for March lower than expected at 2.2%. The expected figure was 2.3%. Services inflation for March is estimated at 3.4%, lower than the 3.7% figure of February. Food inflation was higher at 2.9% with February food inflation registering 2.7%.

European stock markets climbed upwards following the news release.

Meanwhile the Euro area average unemployment rate went down from 6.2% to 6.1% from February to March. Malta has registered a record low unemployment rate of 2.7%. The EU’s unemployment rate is at 5.7%.
