Yesterday, during the significant parliamentary session on the vote for the reform of Magisterial Inquiries, five PN MPs were absent, including Adrian Delia and Alex Borg. I was also told that Alex Borg is abroad but I could not confirm this at the time of writing.
Adrian Delia missed the vote yesterday, saying he was too sick to attend.
Yesterday’s vote was significant, and Opposition Leader Bernard Grech has always made it a point that MPs are obliged to attend such important votes. Alex Borg seems that he wants to avoid the issue altogether.
Today, Cartoon Network published an article by Alex Borg in which the MP completely ignores yesterday’s parliamentary session as he argued that politicians needed to “revitalise” politics. This is just Alex Borg’s word-salad to say that he prefers to do less opposition, and that he is more “positive” than his colleagues who actually attended the parliamentary session.
Alex Borg’s absence also shows a great sense of disloyalty in regard to his colleague, Karol Aquilina, who was the subject of a motion of censure that prompted the Opposition to walk out of parliament. Basically, Alex Borg is abstaining from taking sides in a political dispute between his colleague and his political adversaries.ย His behaviour in acting on his own volition and repeatedly taking the sides of the Labour has raised criticism inside the Nationalist Party and some MPs are accusing Opposition Leader Bernard Grech of not being able to bring the firebrand MP in line with party policy.
Adrian Delia doesn’t seem to be very interested in discussing yesterday’s events either. His last post on social media was on April 1st.
Yesterday, the Labour government completed another very important task in its regular efforts to cove-up its abuse of power, its corruption and criminality. In doing so, it has also removed a very important right from all citizens. Ignoring these matters and these issues do not reflect well on you as a opposition politician, even if your electorate is disinterested. If you are already lying on behalf of large developers and ignoring essential tools which deter and keep in check the abuse of political power, that means you’re more likely to abuse power yourself if you have it.
