This afternoon, at around 3:15 pm, police were alerted to a serious traffic accident that occurred on the Coast Road in Naxxar.
Officers promptly responded to the scene, where initial investigations revealed a collision had taken place between a Volvo double-decker bus and a Jaguar XF. The Jaguar was being driven by an 81-year-old man from Ħaż-Żebbuġ, accompanied by an 80-year-old woman, also from the same locality. The bus, meanwhile, was driven by a 39-year-old man originally from Kenya, who resides in Żurrieq, and was carrying several passengers at the time.
Emergency services, including a medical team and members of the Civil Protection Department, were called to assist. Both drivers, the elderly woman, and three women who were passengers on the bus were transported to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment.
Later, the 80-year-old woman was certified to be suffering from serious injuries and is in danger of losing her life. The medical condition of the others remains unknown as of now.
Magistrate Antoine Agius Bonnici has been informed of the case and has launched an inquiry, while police investigations are ongoing.
