Confusion is running deep over tariffs, as President Trump issued a statement yesterday denying that he ever announced tariff exemptions on China, contrary to what he described as the “fake news media reports”. The exceptions listed in the White House document include smartphones, computers, semiconductors and other electronic parts as was correctly reported by the press.
The tariff exemptions were first announced on April 11th via this document and were later confirmed by US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick.
Meanwhile, market futures have ignored President Trump’s statements indicating that markets may have begun to ignore the discourse on tariffs.
