Yesterday, animal rights activists held a protest in front of the Animal Health and Welfare Department building to pressure the department in finding an urgent solution to the wild cats that have been abandoned by their owner, Christian Borg. The government will be forking out the funds for their relocation after it gave an amnesty to owners of unregistered wild animals.
Meanwhile, Christian Borg, who after abandoning the lions began building a menagerie on the rooftop of his penthouse in Swieqi, was served with an enforcement notice to remove the menagerie, with daily fines of up to €2 if the structure is not dismantled. Christian Borg, a previous drug-dealer turned car-rental businessman enjoys widespread impunity for being the Prime Minister’s past business partner and client. He is set to testify in front of the Parliamentary Privileges Committee in the coming weeks.
