Despite the Police claiming that there have been “exhaustive investigations” into Simon Cusens’ case, Cusens himself says he was never even questioned by the Police. He even says it in a bragging manner as if the fact that he wasn’t contacted by investigators is actually a good thing.
It doesn’t make sense that he wasn’t even interrogated because his previous employee, Ivan Vassallo was actually charged in Court over his insider Technoline deal. If the Police wanted to successfully get a guilty verdict for Ivan Vassallo, they would have made sure to acquire all the evidence, including by interrogating Simon Cusens himself.
However, the reality is that the Police didn’t investigate the Vitals case and the Prosecutor didn’t go over the Magisterial Inquiry to prepare a proper case. Once the Magisterial Inquiry was deposited, the Attorney-General immediately went on to issue the charges against the suspects without doing any investigative work and corroboration of the facts to launch a strong case in Court. The Police didn’t add additional evidence to the case that was brought forward by the investigators and didn’t go over the Magisterial Inquiry to continue its work.
The result is that Simon Cusens can walk away with up to €5 million in public funds over a fradulent deal, along with others currently being charged who may very well walk free due to the willing complacency of the Police and the Attorney-General.
