Death toll from Zamzam massacre in Sudan keeps increasing as more data emerges

Ongoing research by various entities including the Yale School of Public Health’s Humanitarian Research Lab, shows that initial death tolls from the Zamzam massacre by the Rapid Support Forces is much higher than initially thought with satellite imagery showing dozens of corpses from the people who fled Zamzam to Tawila in Darfur. Other satellite imagery shows that RSF are raising buildings and structures in Zamzam to the ground with up to 7000 structures having been destroyed so far.

Up to 400,000 people have fled Zamzam Camp after it was captured by the Rapid Support Forces, who immediately began shooting, murdering, and raping people upon their arrival. Initial death tolls were estimated at around 500 people, but the actual number may be significantly higher. The RSF retaliated against the residents of Zamzam after having lost Khartoum to the Sudanese Army. They are now shelling El-Fashir with multiple casualties reported as a result.

Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without borders) who are treating up 29,000 refugees in Tawila who arrived from Zamzam have said that they have run out of supplies.

RSF leader Hemedti announced a parallel government of “peace and unity” while the Zamzam massacre was ongoing. Many women have been raped and killed.

Footage below shows the Sudanese arriving in Tawila. Below is footage of the RSF in Zamzam.
