In a rare public statement against the genocidal militia, the Rapid Support Forces, the US government condemned its attack against civilians earlier this week in the Abu Shouk Camp at Al-Fashir. The Rapid Support Forces were repelled in their attack on Al-Fashir last Monday. Abu Shouk Camp is a residential district in northern Al-Fashir. The RSF killed up to 40 civilians when they invaded the Camp last Monday.
Al-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur hosts more than 500,000 people including many civilians who have been displaced from Zamzam.
Public condemnations against the genocidal RSF are unusual given that the United Arab Emirates has successfully framed its funded genocidal war in Sudan with the mainstream press as a “conflict between two internal parties”. Prior to exiting office, President Joe Biden sanctioned the RSF and its leaders for committing acts of genocide in Sudan. Initially, the Trump administration took a position against the Sudanese government when it accused it of using chemical weapons without any evidence. The announcement coincided with a US arms sale to the United Arab Emirates.
The latest statement by the US State Department is one of the first instances by the Trump administration condemning the RSF.
