The US Department of State condemns the RSF for genocide and sanctions its leader Hemedti

The US Department of State has condemned Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces for committing genocide and have sanctioned its leader, Mohammad Hamdan Daglo Mousa, known as Hemedti for systematic atrocities against the Sudanese people. This decision comes as a victory for the Sudanese people who are currently struggling against the violence of the Rapid Support Forces.

A recently published academic study has presented with the evidence the atrocities and civilian deaths committed by the RSF last year.

The Rapid Support Forces are financed and armed by the United Arab Emirates and are waging a sectarian and genocidal war against the Sudanese people with the aim of forming an emirate in Darfur. The RSF have been whitewashed by many misinformed press reports citing them as a legitimate military organisation in Sudan who are fighting a civil war against the government, but in reality the war in Sudan is structured as a proxy war mainly fueled by the United Arab Emirates. Without the backing of the UAE, the RSF would not have the capabilities and the measures to commit their atrocities and their military operations.
