As time goes by, it will become increasingly more difficult for the Police to justify their lack of action and lack of prosecution against high-profile individuals involved in the extensive corruption of public entities and the embezzlement of public funds.
Joseph Muscat was allowed to keep earning money from his Chinese-Visa racket despite the Police sitting on a large FIAU file which explained the corrupt scheme. The Chinese-Visa racket kept taking place even after the Police were made aware of the racket.
We have a situation where the financial regulators are acting without Police backing and support, and this is curtailing the executive power of these entities to investigate and take action.
Meanwhile, the Police did actually take action against separate ghost-residency rackets, but the perpetrators of these rackets seem to be common criminals who would typically be hauled to Court.
This ongoing impunity not only allows Joseph Muscat to walk free despite his crimes, including those against the State, but it also affects the Police Force, creating dysfunction that prevents it from fulfilling its role to its full potential.
