The Nationalist Party condemns Labour Party’s CEO appointment to Jobs Plus board

In a statement issued earlier today, the Nationalist Party condemned the Labour government for appointing the Labour Party’s CEO, Leonid McKay, to the board of Jobs Plus.

The move is indeed blatantly and obscenely irregular and some context should be added here.

The move to appoint the Labour Party’s CEO to the Jobs Plus board is strategic and aimed at increasing government reach over the entity. Jobs Plus is responsible over employment regulatory matters and even the unemployed. Having Party officials running this entity gives the Labour Party a lot of influence over the unemployed who are facilitated jobs through Jobs Plus.

The Labour Party also actively makes use of publicly available electoral registers to select and mark individuals with their political leanings. These registers are intensively used during election campaigns. The Labour Party was also taken to court for its use of this data. With these ample resources, access to data, and the power of incumbency, the Labour government has more options at its disposal to win the favour of disgruntled workers.

Leonid McKay has been taking on a more political role inside the Labour Party that goes beyond his remit a CEO. His appointment to Jobs Plus is not because he needs to be paid. He is a full-time employee of the Labour Party and earns a monthly salary. Leonid McKay also has experience working with unemployed people at Caritas. His appointment to Jobs Plus is very strategic.
