Yesterday, an animal rights activist was insulted by someone who was being very defensive on the relocation of the lions to Martin Farrugia’s “zoo”. The person may give the impression that they are related to Martin Farrugia, but we did not confirm this.
This exchange reflects an arrogant attitude by the person defending the wild keeping of animals which translates simply to “I will do it because I can.” There’s a lot of amorality to extract from this kind of thinking. It also reflects Labour’s culture of corruption of impunity seeping into the rhetoric of the population as individuals invoke pseudo-rights such as the pseudo-right to own a wild animal.
The Labour government roll-back its progressive legislation on animals when it decriminalised the keeping and trading of wild and exotic animals.
