38 Maltese nationals have been evacuated from Libya’s capital city Tripoli, following clashes that broke out in the capital city earlier this week. The Maltese nationals were picked up by a convoy from Tripoli and taken to Misrata’s airport to fly back to Malta.
Earlier today, the Government of National Unity issued a statement advising the residents of Tripoli to go back to work and that the situation has been stabilised. Reports are stating that a ceasefire brokered by the government yesterday evening is holding and armed-factions have withdrew from the streets to their barracks. Chaos and fighting in Tripoli ensued yesterday, despite the ceasefire.
Multiple foreign embassies and foreign ministries including the United Kingdom warned against traveling to Libya following the clashes while other countries like china are urging their nationals to leave the country.
