In comments he gave to Politico, EU Commissioner Glenn Micallef said that Israel should be banned from European sporting events. Referring directly to Israel, the EU Commissioner sad that Europe can not welcome those who don’t share its values. Glenn Micallef is the Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport.
The EU Commissioner stated that this decision should be up to independent sporting bodies but he reiterated that as an EU official he feels the responsibility to speak up.
The Maltese Commissioner, Glenn Micallef, was the only EU Commissioner and high EU representative to condemn Israel’s attack on the humanitarian vessel “Conscience” outside Malta’s coast. He also changed his stance on defence upon being appointed Commissioner and is now calling for Europe to lessen its military dependence on the US.
