Cabinet reshuffle: Owen Bonnici promoted to Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government amid Labour Party tensions

In a move aimed at strengthening coordination between land management, cultural heritage preservation, and local council needs, Minister Owen Bonnici will now take charge of the Lands Authority under his new title as Minister for Culture, Lands, and Local Government. Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli will continue to serve within this ministry, maintaining her current responsibilities.

The reshuffle also sees Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi taking on a new portfolio as Minister for European Funds and the Implementation of the Electoral Programme.

Meanwhile, Home Affairs, Security and Employment Minister Byron Camilleri will now also oversee the National Development and Social Fund (NDSF).

Additionally, Parliamentary Secretary for Social Dialogue Andy Ellul has been entrusted with the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA).

Owen Bonniciโ€™s promotion comes amid escalating tensions within the Labour Party. ย Sources suggest this reshuffle is a direct response by the Prime Minister, asserting his authority and distancing himself from Muscatโ€™s hardline loyalists.
