Joseph Muscat’s little propogandists have been conducting a very hateful and defamatory campaign against Dar Camilleri and myself following my success at obtaining a contract with the Arts Council. Their message is that the Labour government should not award contracts to its critics. Neville Gafa is even calling on the Minister responsible for the Arts Council to resign and encouraging Labour voters not to vote for him in the next elections.
The case has turned into an incredible schism in the Labour Party which we have not seen for a long time. Joseph Muscat’s faction is up in arms against the Prime Minister, demanding that he sever any perceived association between himself and his Minister for Culture with me following the awarding of a contract. This perceived association is helping the Prime Minister in presenting himself as the more moderate leading voice in the Labour Party in contrast to Joseph Muscat and his minions.
And he is going to double-down.
The Minister of Culture Owen Bonnici won’t remain the Minister of Culture for very long: he is going to be promoted in what seems to be a direct response by the Prime Minister to the visceral attacks by Neville Gafa and others. It’s also an assertion by the Prime Minister that he is in control of the Party and that Joseph Muscat’s faction will not sway him.
We are not aware of what kind of promotion Minister Bonnici will receive, but the announcement will be made in the coming days.
