Yesterday, I had an interesting phone call with Neville Gafa (I’ve been having lots of these lately for my upcoming book). Neville Gafa wanted to clarify my points I made in this piece which he confirmed and explained further with his reply. I will be writing his reply on this internal Labour Party matter later on.
In the meantime, I’ll be writing what he has been on about since that was my main question all along. I asked him how he has been making a living and he said he has been spending most of his time in Turkey working as a “business consultant” doing “business development”.
I pressed him to give me an example of some of his projects, along with questioning him about his regular trips to Russia. He said that that he has been going to Russia on business trips, specifically to introduce Turkish businessmen to Russian businessmen. Neville Gafa is acting as a broker between these businesses and his role and specialisation is mainly to help the Turks source cheaper products for the Russians. When I asked him to give me an example of the products he was brokering he said food products, so I asked him if was in business with Keith Schembri. He said no and he has been doing this on his own as a self-employed.
Note, he said he is paying himself for his trips to Russia, although I find this hard to believe since trips to Russia are not cheap and he is also traveling there regularly.
I was not surprised he would be doing some thing of this sort. What’s significant is that he is a previous top public official who is now doing business in the most heavily sanctioned country on Earth by helping its businesses get cheaper imports. They are truly a rogue bunch, Joseph Muscat and his friends, with most of them under criminal investigation or charged in court while conducting business in Russia or China. Not to mention the obvious national security risk this criminal gang poses to our country with their shady activities.
