An incredible event happened recently in Maltese politics. It took just another eccentric man to take down Joseph Muscat’s latest propogandist, Ricky Caruana, and the encounter couldn’t have been better.
This is Ivan Grech Mintoff. A previous Labour Party member, who also happens to be Dom Mintoff’s nephew, that left the Labour Party years ago to create his own party. He is a religious conservative and is actively advocating against abortion and Labour’s liberal policies.
However, Ivan Grech Mintoff also parted ways with the Labour Party during Joseph Muscat’s rampant corruption and Ivan Grech Mintoff was also one of the earliest Labour Party members who back then called out Neville Gafa for corruption.
Neville Gafa lost a libel case against The Malta Independent over his case regarding allegations of visa fraud. The Police initially never investigated Neville Gafa about the case but only investigated the whistleblower instead. This was when Joseph Muscat was still in power.
Ivan Grech Mintoff went to Ricky Caruasna’s podcast and one of the first things he did was to out his host as Joseph Muscat’s propogandist. He also proceeded to lay out his conditions for the debate and demanded that his interview should not be used by Neville Gafa as an excuse for him to sit down for another interview. Ricky Caruana didn’t accept this and grows agitated and nervous as Ivan Grech Mintoff keeps accusing him of trying to cover-up for Neville Gafa and Joseph Muscat’s clique.
Ricky Caruana’s gay and charming demeanor unravels as he gradually goes berserk in response to Ivan Grech Mintoff’s constant insinuations that he is a propagandist.
The scene is a striking memento of Joseph Muscat’s decline. In a rundown basement studio, a fat, middle-aged host, wearing tacky gold jewelry and shorts with slippers, fumed with anger as his guest pointed out the simple truth: that he is nothing more than a foolish, sycophantic loudmouth.
Ivan Grech Mintoff gave reasonable politics an unwitting victory.
Absolute cinema.
