Malta’s impressive medal haul at the GSSE2025 Games of the Small States of Europe in Andorra continued on Tuesday as gymnast Sophie St. John clinched gold in the women’s Vault event.
St. John delivered a superb routine that earned her a score of 12.550, securing first place and adding another gold to Malta’s tally — the seventh of the Games so far.
Her performance not only showcased her technical excellence and composure under pressure but also underlined Malta’s growing strength in gymnastics on the international stage.
The gold in Vault further boosts Team Malta’s momentum as the country continues to make its mark across multiple disciplines in Andorra.
Additionally, Sophie St John continued to shine later in the day, capturing her third gold medal with an outstanding performance on the beam. Scoring 12.900, St John secured her second gold of the day, further cementing her status as one of Malta’s standout athletes in Andorra. Her consistency and excellence across multiple events have made her a leading figure in the national team’s success.
Success in karate, swimming, table tennis and athletics
Malta’s success continued in karate, where Luke Galea struck gold in the -84kg Kumite category with a 4-2 victory over Luxembourg’s Tiago Serra Rodrigues. Heorhii Denysov secured a bronze medal for Malta in the Men’s -75kg category, bringing the Karate medal tally at the Games to two gold and two bronze medals.
In the pool, Sasha Gatt added another medal to her collection, earning silver in the 1500m freestyle with a time of 17:04:08. This followed her impressive gold medal win in the 800m freestyle on Tuesday.
In Table Tennis, Felix Wetzel and Maria Carmelia Iacob each earned a silver medal in the Singles competition, adding two more to Malta’s overall medal tally.
In the Trap shooting competition, Gianluca Chetcuti earned a bronze medal, finishing third among six competitors. His compatriot, James Galea, narrowly missed the podium, securing fourth place.
Malta also clinched a silver medal in the women’s 4×100 relay and in the women’s basketball 3×3 competition.
