Labour Party MPs call for further dismantling of progressive animal legislation: reduced penalties for hunters

Labour Party MPs including Ramona Attard and Rosianne Cutajar  are calling for lesser penalties on hunters caught hunting illegally or exceeding their hunting quotas. Robert Abela’s government administrations rolled back animals rights legislation and guarantees previously established by the previous Labour Party administrations including the decriminalisation of the trading and keeping of wild and exotic animals.

Hunters have had it much better under the current Premier, as many restrictions on hunting, including the restriction on hunting near schools, have been removed. Hunters under the current Labour administration were also awarded with a natural park in Mellieħa. The current laws that are being challenged have also been enacted under the preceding Labour administrations of the disgraced ex-Premier Joseph Muscat.

Both Ramona Attard and Rosianne Cutajar are fighting for the same constituents on the same electoral district and this is why they are trying to get the hunters’ votes (this district includes Qormi, Siġġiewi and Luqa where hunting is more popular than in other areas in Malta).
