In tweets that he deleted soon after writing and publishing them, Elon Musk admitted to using X.com to wield political influence. In his tweets, Musk said that: “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate.”
The tweets were made as part of a series of outbursts Elon Musk made against President Trump after falling out. Allegedly, Elon Musk fell-out with Trump over the the recently government-proposed spending bill dubbed as the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act”. The bill, which has been approved by Congress, still needs to pass the Senate. The bill aims to cut spending in Medicaid while increasing defence spending.
US government spending is estimated to increase by up to 9 – 10% this year according to various estimates.
Elon Musk recently resigned as a member of President Trump’s cabinet. He headed the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and promised to cut up to $2 trillions in government spending. DOGE claims to have cut up to $175 billion but the figure is contested.
