EU’s top diplomat says US is still Europe’s biggest ally: US government officials attack the EU’s legitimacy

EU High Representative Kaja Kallas had no words of criticism against the recently released US National Security Strategy which calls for resistance against Europe’s democratic leaders and demands Europe to normalise ties with Russia. The EU High Representative also said that some of the points made by the document are also true including that Europe is underestimating the power it has over Russia.

The Vice-Commission President Kallas also said that Europe and the US don’t always see eye to eye but the US still remains Europe’s biggest ally. On the other hand, the very lukewarm and diplomatic statements by the EU’s High Representative do not seem to reflect the reality of the position of the US government. US Deputy Secretary of state Christopher Landau, accused Kaja Kallas of being an “undemocratic” and “unelected” representative pursuing “civilizational suicide”.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski had a more uncompromising views to the statements made in the US National Security Strategy and said that “An interesting metric of erasure is the number of gun deaths: about 6,700 a year in the EU and about 47,000 in the US.”

Meanwhile, attacks against the EU in the US are being echoed by Elon Musk who is demanding to abolish the EU after the EU issued a โ‚ฌ120 million fine against X.com for violations of the Digital Services Act. Elon Musk, who occasionally censors accounts on X.com on behalf of authoritarian governments, is accusing the EU of censorship. However his fine on violations of the DSA are not related to content moderation but about transparency of its blue-checkmarks and adverts. Elon Musk, who admitted that he uses X.com to wield political influence, is currently supporting the far-right and pro-Russian party in Germany AFD.

Verbal attacks against Europe from the US are expected to increase in the coming days as the US government pressures Europe and Ukraine to capitulate to Russia.
