The 444 Brigade has been recalled from Tripoli International Airport unto the streets of Tripoli to once again deter and fight armed-militias including remnants of the Stability Special Deterrence Forces (Rada) that have renewed fighting in the capital city at the start of the week. The clashes reported have been limited and the government quickly took control of the streets.
The 444 Brigade is the pro-government militia that previously successfully fought both Abdel Ghani Al-Kikli’s militia (Stability Support Authority) and the Rada militia.
Meanwhile, the Government of National Unity has announced that the Misrata City Council is joining the government’s efforts to create a regular army. Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh is currently pressing with his campaign to disarm armed militias and create a single and regular army loyal only to the state. The Libyan government is also in the process of clearing militias from the streets.
Clashes also took place in the city of Sabratha late last this week as government forces attempted to arrest a well-known human trafficker called Ahmed Dabashi or “Amo”. Dozens of illegal immigrants who were kidnapped by Amo’s gang have reportedly fled their captors during the clashes.
