Trump congratulates Russia on its national day as it bombs Ukrainian civilians with drones and missiles

At least three civilians were killed by shelling in the city of Nikopol, and another two people killed in Donetsk in Ukraine by Russian airstrikes, as the US President Donald Trump and his Secretary of State, Macro Rubio congratulated Russia during its National Day. Russia has only increased its air airstrikes against Ukrainian civilians since President Trump started his “peace talks” with one of its latest attacks targeting a maternity hospital in Odessa.

Despite the increasing number of airstrikes against Ukrainian civilians, President Trump is withholding weapons sales including air-defence systems from Ukraine. Ukraine is still receiving some US weapons aid that was approved during the previous Biden Administration, but President Trump will not be offering any new aid packages. Ukraine’s new weapons procurement is now mostly being made from Europe and Turkey.

President Trump is increasingly showing signs of openly supporting Russia against Ukraine, but this has been his plan all along: to force Ukraine to capitulate to Russia by ceding its territory and forfeiting its prospects of joining NATO. Ukraine had hoped to unlock US weapons purchases by signing a mineral rights deal that President Trump personally insisted on. However, despite the agreement, Trump has made no shift in his policy toward Russia or Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Ukraine vows to fight on the Russian invasion as the number of Russian soldiers killed during their invasion of Ukraine has now surpassed one million.
