The government’s judicial protest against MIDI states that a full contract cancellation is in the offing

We are publishing this week’s judicial protest by the government against MIDI over Manoel Island.

A judicial protests does not effect any legal action but is only a written protest that communicates the intention of proceeding with legal action. The government told MIDI that it has violated its contract concession over Manoel Island, specifically article 8, failed to pay the fines that it was meant to pay after missing deadlines and demanded immediate payment.

The government also told MIDI that it can not practically finish the project by the end of the deadline and that the government will invoke all of its legal rights to take back the concession.

The letter is very clear and rarely if ever the Labour administration has taken such a very strong stand against a major construction developer over a public contract.

MIDI has also announced that it is willing to give up its concession to the government and talks are ongoing.
