In an incident on 30th May, excavation works at a site in Marsaskala appear to have caused some structural damage to third party properties. The site in question is at the intersection of Triq l-Ghawwiema and Triq il-Bajja. Photos sent to The Maltese Herald demonstrate the ongoing works as well as the signs put up by police forbidding entry to apartments.
Residents who spoke to this news portal said that three families from the block had to be evacuated on that date. They said that they still cannot return to their homes.
However, sources who spoke to The Maltese Herald insisted that no evacuations from the adjoining apartments took place. They did however confirm that works have been issued with a stop notice due to a concrete pile that accidentally penetrated the common area of the abutting apartments.
In other media, the Building and Construction Authority confirmed that they conducted a site inspection but denied ordering evacuations on the site.
So far the site remains with the police signage and access to garages is forbidden.
