Inflation in Malta keeps rising due to food and non-alcoholic beverages

According to the latest NSO statistics, inflation in Malta is continuing on its rising trend after having waned down a bit at the end of last year.

The Harmonised Index for Consumer Prices went up by 2.7% in May higher than its 2.6% increase in April, mainly due to a consistent increase in the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages.

The second largest contributor to the inflation rate was transport, followed by restaurants.

Europe’s inflation trend is trending slightly down, with the latest Eurozne Consumer Price Index coming at 2.3%, lower than April’s reading of 2.7%.
