Unusual activity reported in Strait of Hormuz but no sign that the strait will be closed

Unusual activity was reported in the Strait of Hormuz following the US bombing of Iran’s nuclear sites as up to fifty oil tankers were in the process of exiting the strait at one time but there are no signs that Iran will be closing the strait. Up to 110 commercial vessels pass through the strait every day including up to 40 oil tankers.

Aircraft carrier USS Nimitz and its strike group are currently on their way to the Persian Gulf and may meet with USS Carl Vinson which is already in the region. The US Fifth Fleet is also present in Bahrain.
