Zaylen has been identified as the six-year-old boy who tragically lost his life after being found unconscious in a private swimming pool in the Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq area on Sunday evening.
The incident happened at around 5:30pm while Zaylen was with relatives in nearby private fields. When they realised he was missing, the family contacted police, prompting an immediate search of the area. A police drone eventually located the child in a pool at a neighbouring residence.
He was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance but was sadly pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Since the news broke, an outpouring of sympathy has flooded social media. In a heartfelt tribute, Zaylen’s aunt said she still cannot come to terms with the loss, describing him as “a beautiful flower chosen by God.”
Magistrate Joe Mifsud has launched an inquiry, and police investigations into the tragedy remain ongoing.
