Up to 100,000 people attended the Gay Pride march in Budapest yesterday following its ban by Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Following the ban, the march evolved into a wide-scale protest movement against the government. Many European politicians also attended the march to show solidarity with Hungary and Hungarians including Malta’s Green party leader Sandra Gauci.
Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stรธre also attended the event.
Hungarian activists said that this was the largest gay pride event in Hungarian history.
Viktor Orban and his partyย Fidesz (Hungarian Civic Alliance) are currently falling in polls withย Pรฉter Magyar, who leads the Tisza Party (Respect and Freedom) gaining ground and popularity.ย
