Yesterday at around 6:30 p.m., police were alerted to an emergency situation at Għadira Bay in Mellieħa, where their assistance was urgently needed.
Police officers responded swiftly to the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that a 55-year-old man from Mellieħa encountered difficulties while swimming. Bystanders nearby quickly intervened, providing first aid and pulling the man out of the water.
Medical personnel arrived shortly after and continued to administer assistance. The man was transported to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance. Tragically, he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Magistrate Joseph Mifsud has been informed of the case and launched a magisterial inquiry. Police investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
