Hamas releases statement: confirms its willingness for a ceasefire

Hamas has released a brief statement saying that it is willing to implement a ceasefire in Gaza, but has not provided any other details. In another statement Hamas said it is holding discussions with mediators about the flow of humanitarian aid.

Mediations between Hamas and Israel are currently being organised by the US and Qatar.

Hamas still holds up to 20 Israeli hostages considered to be alive, but its authority over Palestinians Gaza is being increasingly challenged. Despite ceasefire negotiations, Hamas still expects to remain in control of Gaza.

Dozens of Palestinians have also been killed today in daily Israeli airstrikes.
