Libyan Prime Minister reiterates conditions for armed militias

The Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh has reiterated his conditions to armed groups as he tries to dissolve armed militias and create a unified and exclusive Libyan army. The Libyan Prime Minister is demanding armed militias to hand over full control of the prisons and Mitiga Airport to the civilian government.

The Libyan Prime Minister is currently engaged in a struggle with armed militias, previously based in Tripoli, to disarm and integrate into the regular security forces. The Libyan Prime Minister also accused armed militias of illegally using Mitiga Airport to import weapons. He is also demanding from armed militias to hand over criminal suspects, and pledges to take responsibility over prisons after these are handed over to the state.

He also accused the militia which took control of the Al-Juma neighbourhood of using the residents in the area as human shields – a reference to the RADA armed faction. The government is also not giving any guarantees to suspected criminals who are members of armed militias.
