UN Conference on Palestine postponed for 28-29 July

The UN Conference on Palestine organised by France and Saudi Arabia which is meant to provide a platform for the recognition of the State of Palestine will be held on the 28 and 29 July in New York. Previously, French President Emmanuel Macron and Saudi’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin-Salman were meant to announce their recognition of the Palestinian state during this conference. The conference was previously postponed due to Israel and Iran’s 12 Day War.

Malta has agreed in principle to recognise the State of Palestine during this conference. The Nationalist Party in Malta is insisting with the government to go ahead with the recognition irrespective of the conference.

Up to 47 people have been killed in Gaza today mainly due to Israeli airstrikes as the IDF keeps forcing the remaining residents in the north of Gaza to flee. Israel currently plans to concentrate all of the Palestinians in Gaza on the ruins of Rafah. Israel also plans to permanently occupy the north of Gaza and displace the Palestinians out of Gaza.

Ongoing mediation efforts by the US and Qatar for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas are inconclusive with both sides blaming each other. Hamas expect the IDF to withdraw from Gaza but Israel wants Hamas to give up power and even disarm.ย Protests in Tel Aviv against the war and for an immediate ceasefire have also continued.
