The Maltese Herald is reliably informed that the Minister for Gozo and Planning, Clint Camilleri, has clashed with the Health Minister over a new ambulance alert system in St George’s Square (Rabat, Gozo). The system is intended to notify restaurant outlets in the area when an ambulance is approaching, prompting them to clear tables in the square to allow access.
The idea of the alarm was proposed by the Health Minister himself, Jo Etienne Abela, whose relatives also own a restaurant in the square called Manouche. The restaurant owners and relatives of the Health Minister were caught in a dispute with festa organizers last weekend. The Minister for Gozo has opposed this alarm system and originally wanted restaurant owners to clear their tables from the square. The two Ministers are now in a serious dispute between each other with Jo Etienne Abela being accused of overstepping his authority to appease his relatives.
Times of Malta has also published a report with the details about the alarm system. In April, an ambulance could not get through Saint George’s Square due to tables spread in the square that blocked access.
