Manfred Weber describes EU-US trade deal as “damage control”

The President of the European People’s Party Manfred Weber has described an EU-US trade deal struck last night in Scotland as “damage control”. The US has set a 15% tariff rate for most of EU exports to the US. US tariffs on EU products ranged between 1 and 2% before Donald Trump took office. The deal will now have to be approved by the European Parliament.

Marine Le Pen also criticised the deal, stating that the EU had secured a deal worse than the one signed by the United Kingdom. The US tariff for products imported from the UK was set at 10% after the US and the UK signed a deal.ย

According to an article by the Financial Times, diplomats have criticised the EU for taking aa weak position during negotiations resulting in a disadvantageous deal to it.
