Ursula von der Leyen hails tariff agreement with the United States: EU products tariffed at 15%

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen hailed a trade deal struck with US President Donald Trump in which all EU products to the US, will be tariffed at 15%. Steel and aluminum will still have higher tariffs. She also said that she understood that this rate will be difficult for some EU exporters but consoled her listeners by saying that the EU will retain access to the US market.

The deal will now be presented to the EU Parliament for approval.

US President Trump had threatened the EU with a 30% tariff if a deal was not struck.

Before the meeting, that took place in Scotland, President Trump said that he was in a bad mood and there are four sticking points that need to be addressed. He also added that there was a 50% chance a deal was going to be struck.

The US and the EU has the biggest trading relationship in the world with up to €1.7 trillion in trading volume every year. Trade with the US and the EU is balanced between goods and services
