Swimming advisory reissued for Wilga Street, St Julian’s due to renewed contamination risk

In accordance with the Bathing Water Directive, the Environmental Health Directorate within the Superintendence of Public Health has issued a new precautionary warning advising the public not to swim in the area of Wilġa Street, St Julian’s.

The advisory was prompted by the detection of contaminated water percolating into the sea, as indicated on the official map. This situation may affect the bathing water quality and pose a potential health risk to swimmers.

Following an investigation, the source of the contamination was successfully identified and addressed. However, officials note that the impact may persist, and it is currently not possible to predict how long the bathing restriction will remain in effect.

The affected area is identified as Site Code: B05 – Wilġa, and warning signs have been placed on-site. Once water quality is confirmed to have returned to safe levels, these signs will be removed and a new press release will be issued to inform the public that bathing can safely resume.

For further information, the public is encouraged to contact the Environmental Health Directorate between 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at 2133 7333, or via email at wrau.ehd@gov.mt.
