Trump aims nuclear submarines at Russia following Medvedev’s threat of war

In an usual move of posturing, President Donald Trump announced that he has aimed two nuclear submarines against Russia following Dmitry Medvedev’s threat of war against the US. This is not the first time that the previous Russian President and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev made threats of war against the US or Europe even mentioning nuclear weapons. Mdevdev made the threats in reaction to President Trump’s ultimatum over Ukraine.

President Trump is threatening Russia with a new wave of sanctions unless Russia stops its war in Ukraine.

It is unusual for the US to posture with its nuclear-military assets but Russia does it more often. In June last year, Russia sent the Yasen-class nuclear submarine, Kazan,ย along with a frigate and support vessels to Cuba. In February of this year, two Tuโ€‘95MS strategic nuclear bombers conducted a four-hour flight over the Norwegian Sea.

This is also the first time that the US has reacted to threats by Dmitry Medvedev who although holds a high-profile in Russia, has little to no influence in the Kremlin and on the course of the war. Medvedev is the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation. He is also said to have a drinking problem.

Trumpโ€™s announcement (tweet?) is uncharacteristically eloquent compared to his usual toddler stage vocabulary, but also, I believe all this is a charade, a piece of theatre. We all suspect Putin helped Trump win the election and that the US president is a stooge of Putinโ€™s Russia. Trump would never really oppose Putin in a meaningful way.
