India and the Philippines hold joint-naval exercises as Chinese water-border aggression increases

Three Indian Navy ships have berthed in Port Manila earlier today after concluding the first ever joint-maritime exercises with the Navy of the Philippines in the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Philippines. The Indian naval ships included the INS Delhi (a guided missile destroyer), the INS Shakti (a fleet tanker), and the INS Kiltan (an anti-submarine corvette). The Philippine Navy participated with two frigates, BRP Miguel Malvar and BRP Jose Rizal.

The naval exercises included several naval maneuvers, air-defence training and simulated fighting against submarines. A Chinese destroyer also trailed the maneuvers from a distance.ย

The naval exercises have come during a time when China is rapidly increasing its aggression against the Philippines with its Coast Guard and militia fishing-boats and is claiming wide areas of Filipino waters, including several islands as their own. Three large Chinese Coast Guard ships are currently also approaching Batanes islands.
