A massive fire in Aude in the Occitanie region of southern France was still ongoing as of early this morning after it burnt over 16,000 hectares of natural and agricultural land, including 25 houses and 40 vehicles. The wildfire is the largest to have ever been recorded in France. French firefighters are battling the fire.
The fire started last Tuesday in the village of Ribaute and spread during a draught under a temperate of around 35ยฐC and aided by strong winds and low humidity.
European neighbours including Italy and Spain, but also Portugal are currently on high alert patrolling forest regions to detect and address any potential fires immediately.
