Israeli press reports state that up to 60,000 IDF reservists have been called for the next phase of the Israeli government-approved military operation in Gaza called “Gideon’s Chariots” which aims to occupy Gaza and displace Palestinians our of coastal enclave. These are in addition to another 20,000 reservists whose duty will be extended.
Israel is currently executing its plan to permanently occupy the north of Gaza by pummeling Gaza City and the surrounding neighbourhoods with airstrikes and shelling. All the residents have been told to flee as of last week before intense shelling started. Many residents are now trapped.
Dozens of civilians are being killed on a daily basis as a result of the shelling and airstrikes on Gaza City and three children have also been reported to have died due to malnutrition this week. The IDF is also demolishing residential buildings.
Most of the Palestinians in Gaza re being forced to stay at the camp sites along the coast in Al-Mawasi.
Hamas is proposing a truce proposal with Israel to release the 20 hostages in exchange for a ceasefire and increased humanitarian aid, however Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he will not accept anything less than the total surrender of Hamas and their disarmament.
Massive protests have also taken place in Israel against the ongoing Israeli occupation of Gaza.
